50 Cent, born Curtis Jackson is the genuine article. He is a man of the streets, intimately familiar with its violence and its codes. The platinum hitmakers Trackmasters took notice of 50 and signed him to Columbia Records in 1999. They sent 50 to Upstate New York where they locked him up in the studio for 2 1/2 weeks.
In April of '00, 50 was shot 9 times, including a .9mm bullet to the face, in front of his grandmothers house in Queens. He spent the next few months in recovery while Columbia Records dropped him from the label.
In 2001 a 50 Cent CD entitled "Guess Who's Back?", which featured the G-Unit, got picked up by Eminem. Eminem confimed 50's talents with Dr Dre. 50 did not hestitate to sign with Shady Aftermath Records, Rap Music's Dreamteam.
